Title: Pi Day Celebration Event Date: March 14, 2010 Event Location: Ashdown House, Hulsizer Room Projected Attendance: 250 Prior Attendance: 250 Will alcohol be served? No Will GSC funds be used to purchase alcohol? No Event Description: One of Ashdown's most unique traditions is the Pi Day celebration, dedicated to all things 3.14159. Of course, the only way to properly recognize pi is with pie...20 kinds of pie, to be exact, from Mike's Pastry and Petsi Pies. Besides the social atmosphere, the opportunity to try so many unique and unusual pies is a significant attraction of this event. There will also be ice cream and drinks available. Once everyone has chosen their pie and settled down, it's time for the annual pi digit recitation contest. Gift cards will be given as prizes for reciting the most correct digits of pi, as well as in a raffle for attendees who bring their own plate and utensils. With this year's Pi Day falling on a Sunday, we expect this event will be a fun, brunch-like environment to bring together students from across campus. The budgeted expenses are again based on projected attendance and actual expenses from last year's celebration. The event, scheduled to begin on 3/14 at 1:59pm, is free and open to all members of the MIT community; we will use flyers to advertise all over campus. Expenses: Pies (50 total, about 20 different types) $750 Ice cream, milk, soda, utensils $100 Gift cards for pi digit recitation contest, raffle $50 Publicity (flyers) $50 Revenues / Alternative Funding: Ashdown House Contribution $200 Total Requested [from GSC]: $750
